The East West Link is an 18 kilometre cross-city road connection extending across Melbourne from the Eastern Freeway to the Western Ring Road.
Planning and procurement is underway for the first stage of the East West Link, a six kilometre section connecting the Eastern Freeway with CityLink. The planning study is also considering a connection to the Port of Melbourne area.
In May 2014 the Victorian Government announced the $8-10 billion Western Section to link the Eastern Freeway through to the Western Ring Road.Read more about the project
The East West Link Comprehensive Impact Statement (CIS) has been prepared and was on display for public comment in late 2013.
Following consideration of submissions to the CIS and a public hearing in March and April this year, the Assessment Committee submitted its recommendations to the Minister for Planning on 30 May 2014.
The Minister for Planning has considered the Assessment Committee's recommendations and has approved the eastern section of the East West Link.
